The relentless Dodgers lineup that doesn’t expand the zone forced Schmidt to work up his pitch count, resulting in his shortest start since August … of 2023. Los Angeles never allowed Schmidt to settle in, because its third batter of the night parked a two-run shot off of him. https://angelesings.com/ Schmidt’s early exit forced Yankees manager Aaron Boone to go to his bullpen, and to its credit, New York’s relievers wiggled out of catastrophic damage multiple times. It was the Yankees lineup that, once again, fell flat. — Thosar
So as Hernández collected the bounding ball and hucked it home, disaster dawned upon the scene. Ball and giant man arrived simultaneously. Stanton leapt into a half-jump, half-slide more appropriate for an inflatable slip-and-slide at a kid’s birthday party.
Freddie Freeman, the hobbled first baseman who conjured memories of Kirk Gibson when he ended Game 1 in heroic fashion with a walk-off grand slam, then helped ensure the Dodgers took Game 2 with a solo shot, immediately took the life out of a crowd of 49,368 fans who were buzzing before the Yankees’ first home game in nearly two weeks by going deep again.
With accessibility options that allow the gameplay’s difficulty to be tweaked to match a user’s preferences, The Planet Crafter can be either brutal or relaxing; either way, it should make for an immersive open-world game. Miju Games did a fantastic job of emphasizing visual progression through The Planet Crafter’s base building and expansion, granting quite a bit of freedom in the terraforming process. After a considerable number of hours, players will have shaped the planet to their tastes.

«Immersive» tends to be synonymous with realistic sims or slow-paced adventures with lengthy campaigns. For the most part, that association makes complete sense and is usually accurate; however, some games opt to go down a different direction entirely. Echo Point Nova is almost the direct opposite of a conventional immersive open-world game, and it is all the better for that distinction.
As with all the open worlds on this list, Subnautica lets you submerge anywhere and everywhere early on. But it’s great in letting you know your limits, and gradually exposing you to new and helpful materials, or areas, or whatnot. The game never makes the survival aspect a chore.
Most 4X and roguelike games make use of procedural generation to some extent to generate game levels. SpeedTree is an example of a developer-oriented tool used in the development of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and aimed at speeding up the level design process. Procedural generation also made it possible for the developers of Elite, David Braben and Ian Bell, to fit the entire game—including thousands of planets, dozens of trade commodities, multiple ship types and a plausible economic system—into less than 22 kilobytes of memory. More recently, No Man’s Sky procedurally generated over 18 quintillion planets including flora, fauna, and other features that can be researched and explored.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was, pardon the pun, a breath of fresh air for the Zelda franchise. Audiences had complained about the ever-growing “handholdy” nature of the series, so Nintendo listened to those criticisms and developed a title that emphasized freedom and exploration. Players can go wherever they want, whenever they want, however they want. Not only is the world full of buried treasures and side quests, but it is also a physics playground that encourages players to find new ways to overcome obstacles and fight enemies.
When playing through the campaign you’re at the mercy of random encounters and events, to the point that a run may last you anywhere from 2 hours to 10 mins depending on your luck. You can try to play as smart as you can but sometimes World of Horror just deals you a shitty hand and before you know it you’re hitting restart on your campaign. If you’re expecting a deep or engaging piece of storytelling, World of Horror will not provide that.

Maybe the monsters will be the death of me this time, assuming the unnatural holes that have recently opened up on my face don’t finish me off first. Maybe neither of them will, because the ancient abomination inching ever closer towards what’s left of reality will snap my mind in two long before it comes to that.
This bit of agency in an adventure game is exciting, but also makes World of Horror scarier. I can’t just click through creepy pictures until I get to the end (or die): I have to actually read the burnt notes I find for clues, listen to gossip and actually remember what was said, and then—if I’ve got the awareness and equipment to do so—perhaps use this information to push a mystery towards a better conclusion. One of my «favourite» climaxes sees my poor character piercing someone’s eye with a needle in a desperate attempt to save them from an even more gruesome fate, and I’m the one who has to mouse their eyeball and manually click the needle in myself, with my own hand.
The four-year wait for Ghost of Tsushima to arrive on PC might have been excruciating for fellow open-world enthusiasts, but the director’s cut is well worth it. Not only does it offer director’s commentary, but it also includes the Iki Island DLC, performance improvements, and an online co-op mode.
Like all good MMOs, what you do once you enter the world of Hydaelyn: there are sprawling adventures to embark on, with new content added all the time (read our FFXIV Endwalker review for an insight into some of the most recent additions), but it can also be just as rewarding to spend your time fishing, or running errands for the NPCs of the world. The world is so beautiful and atmospheric that it’s easy to spend endless hours in it.
This expansive and open-ended environment, filled with diverse biomes, including towering mountains, sprawling forests, and vast oceans, allows players to carve their adventures, fostering limitless creativity and exploration. Minecraft’s cubic kilometers of exploration space set a precedent and continue to influence the design of open-world games, illustrating the potential for expansive, player-driven virtual realms.
This sequel managed to improve upon the original Xenoblade Chronicles in every way, but one of the biggest improvements was the size of the world map. Xenoblade Chronicles X takes place on the planet of Mira. This planet is the new home for humanity after Earth was destroyed and the colony of New Los Angeles was established there.
