Broadcaster Jon Sciambi discusses his analysis and coverage of the World Series so far, sharing his thoughts on Shohei Ohtani’s injury, Aaron Judge’s struggles and Freddie Freeman’s Game 1 walk-off grand slam.
After the second game, prices for Game 4 declined by 41% to more than $1,400. And after last night’s faceoff, the average Game 4 ticket price slid an additional 10%, falling under $1,300 or about half the initial amount.
On StubHub, the cheapest ticket for tonight’s game will run you $413, while the most expensive costs more than $2,100. TickPick prices range from $558 to more than $10,000. On SeatGeek, ticket costs start at $536 and climb to more than $6,400.
Updated data Tuesday reflected that demand, as StubHub said the number of tickets sold for Game 4 jumped 26 percent, which marked the biggest 24-hour spike for the contest since last Tuesday. StubHub declined to share ticket sales figures.

With the New York Yankees down 3-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, the Fall Classic continues with a second straight game at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. The series, which featured Games 1 and 2 in Los Angeles, opened with high ticket prices last week and StubHub officials projected the series could break a company record for the event, but prices have since cooled with the Yankees on the brink of getting swept.
In the 2020 season, and later extended into 2021 and 2022 before being made permanent in 2023, a new rule was added, adding a runner on second to begin each extra inning. The longest game played under these rules was a 16-inning game on August 25, 2021 between the Dodgers and Padres in San Diego where the Dodgers won 5–3 after both teams entered extra innings tied at 1 and traded two runs each in the 15th inning.
1 (tie). Game 2, 2014 National League Division Series: Giants 2, Nationals 1 — 18 inningsThe Nationals have had more than their fair share of agonizing playoff losses in the past decade. This was one of them. The Nats held a 1-0 lead entering the ninth inning in Washington, and Jordan Zimmermann was dominating. The righty had thrown eight shutout innings, and he took the mound for the top of the ninth. He got two quick outs — giving him 20 straight batters retired — but then walked Joe Panik. Matt Williams replaced Zimmermann with Drew Storen, who allowed a single to Buster Posey and a game-tying double to Pablo Sandoval. The Giants almost took the lead there, but Posey was thrown out at the plate to keep the game tied.
In addition to those of Don Drysdale (53), Sandy Koufax (32), and Don Sutton (20), the retired numbers of Pee Wee Reese (1), Jackie Robinson (42), Duke Snider (4), Tommy Lasorda (2), Walter Alston (24), Roy Campanella (39), Jim Gilliam (19), Gil Hodges (14), and Fernando Valenzuela (34) are mounted on the club level facade near the left field foul pole. Also honored on the left field line in addition to the retired numbers are broadcasters Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrin, and longtime owner Walter O’Malley.
Since the 2009 edition, a modified form of the rule has been used for the World Baseball Classic. Unlike the standard rule, the batting order may not start from a different place. Through the 2013 edition, the first inning in which teams started with runners on first and second was the 13th. The rule was not used in either the 2009 or 2013 editions because no game lasted more than 11 innings. For the 2017 World Baseball Classic, the rule was modified to use extra runners for the first time in the 11th inning, and it would see its first use in a second-round game between Japan and the Netherlands at the Tokyo Dome. Japan won that game thanks to a sacrifice bunt and a 2-run hit.
2000 — The New York Yankees become the first team in more than a quarter-century to win three straight World Series championships, beating the New York Mets 4-2. The Yankees match the Oakland Athletics’ three in a row from 1972-74, and win their fourth title in five years.
Three players have hit two walk-off grand slams in a season: Cy Williams in 1926, Jim Presley in 1986, and Steve Pearce in 2017. Pearce’s first was on July 27 (an 8–4 victory over the Oakland Athletics) followed by his second on July 30 (an ultimate grand slam, for an 11–10 win over the Los Angeles Angels), becoming the first player in MLB history to hit multiple walk-off grand slams within the span of a single week.
